Leinster IFC final 4W
WHO: O'Connells (Louth Champs) Versus Monasterevan (Kildare Champs)
WHAT: Leinster Intermediate Final
WHERE: Gaelic Grounds, Drogheda
WHEN: 2pm Sunday
The O'Connells have come a long way, from perennial intermediate flops to worthy Champions.
They came at the year with a new resolve and expressed it further during this Leinster campaign. They had to do without injured Captain Niall Conlon, Away trip to Portlaoise (which is never easy for any Louth team) and beating a Meath team. with 14 men. in extra time. in a semi final.
The players and supporters put a lot of the Credit at the hands of manager Wayne McKeever whose army background has drilled discipline and mental toughness into the Castlebellingham men. One can only imagine the hard training he enforced on his players but it is reaping dividends now.
The opposition, Monasterevan from Kildare are no sitting ducks either. They have showed pedigree by getting to the final by beating Dublin Champs Cuala in their Semi also.
Although they don't possess any household names, Kildare intermediate champions have a strong tradition in this competition winning 2 of the last 3 competitions and a losing finalist last year.
The O'Connells possess home advantage, (well Drogheda) so it should give them a slight edge. Be it, familiar surroundings that might settle them into the game quicker but that's about it.
They must deal with the pressure of this new occasion as well as they have done all season and then their quality forwards should take care of business.
Dundalk Gaels won it back in 2003, Hopefully the O'Connells can join them on the roll of honour too.
I'm a #McKeeverbeliever , are you?
maybe by Sunday evening we all will.......
Things to Expect: Minors Robert Quigley and Cian Doyle to fair alot better than they did in the Minor Final last weekend, Wayne Fitzpatrick to lead the lilly men attack. A possible schmoozle, as these club games tend to be high octane passion.
