Burning Questions Continued

3. Lightening Bolter

I think the term bolter came from the Lions which is in hyperbole at the moment but a bolter has made their way into AOR plans.

3 of them in fact.

He has sprung Rafferty, Bingham and Byrne all into the starting line up

I don't think its a dummy team name either i think these boys are gonna start.

Come Sunday, It will be 80 days since we beat Longford in our last competitive game.

Obviously these boys have made an impression in the build up....

In training closehand and In the challenges**** we've played versus Fermanagh, Antrim, Wicklow, Armagh and Meath also.

It shows that lads can be picked on merit and if you are showing well in house you will be given your chance no matter who you are....that's great for morale and competition for places also....especially Bingham who has come all the way from the trials back in November 2012!?

Like I say, there is no prejudice the team has been picked on form basis and because of that players will play for their manager because they believe in them and given them the chance and it means we have options off the bench out to prove a point.

We have two Ardee, Clogher and Geraldines men ready to come in......Colm Judge, is back in the squad also.....League man Kevin Rogers sitting there also.
that's 8 quality players and I haven't even mentioned Ray Finnegan, David Reid and Gary O'Hare and new additions to the panel Paddy Sheelan and Darren O'Hanlon.

****
I've been worried about the standard of opposition in these challenges, not one division 1 team, while Laois on the otherhand, have played Kerry and Cork! but this is not boxing and where the quality of sparring determines how well prepared you can be well I hope not anyway!

4.Defence Sense?

Man to man we match up Quite well

Full backline
Bingham on
Damien O'Connor

Pops on Colm Kelly
Dessie on Kingston

Halfback Line
Reido on Begley
Crilly on Walsh marked him in the league
JOB on Munnelly marked him in the league

We were alot more solid in this years league compared to last term.

However, we did concede 2-14 in Portlaoise against us and arguably there forward line is slightly stronger now.

Do we employ a risky man to man or go with a slightly different Strategy!??

I mentioned Rafferty and his role yesterday...that looks to be our best option.

Last year when Longford defeated Laois, the main problem was scoring...when the pressure came on they couldn't execute.

This we know....so it is crucial our defence is well set up and doesn't concede goals.

The game is going to be tight we have the more natural, talented forward line....if we make them work harder for scores we will go along way in beating them.
