Ironically, I’ll start with our forwards.....
Antrim’s forward play was in fact, better than ours Saturday luckily doe their finishing wasn’t.
That was the difference.
League Clue
It has been like this all year.
I couldn’t put my finger on it during the league and the Wexford game especially.
But it was clear as day against Antrim.
Our forward play is poor.
It lacks imagination, awareness, creativity.
And overall, Our Decision making is poor.
Further more the speed of the ball is pedestrian, one dimensional and easy to defend.
We shoot in bad areas, over carry the ball, passing is an afterthought for our forwards only when they can’t score, they decide to pass.
That. is the main worry.
Score Creation
Hence, This is why we are working so hard for scores.
Sure, we scored 1-17 Saturday but, every one of them had to taken really well.
Cut to PK, Ronan Carroll and Conor Rafferty nodding in agreement.
The fact of the matter is,
-We’re not creating near the amount of goal chances that we should be.
-Or Forcing and winning free’s (We have the country’s top free taker for god sake!)
-Even Stringing together moves and sustaining pressure on opposing defences.
Maybe a reason for this stagnant attacking play is, our Manager was a defender in a previous life?
It’s not like it can’t be improved, we showed in the Laois game our forward line can be fluid, Derek Crilly, Adrian Reid provide overlaps numerous occasions But, generally the ball is recycled slowly and not given to them off the shoulder and the opportunity is missed.
I’m going to leave on a positive note.
A less Selfish approach can reap dividends, case in point Colm Judge, he played out the field Saturday and linked defence with attack, used his speed going forward. but more than anything he sacrificed himself for that role He is more than capable of playing. and of which we badly need going forward.
