Louth Team Answers

Thats the Louth team for Sunday versus Galway

I'll be giving my answers regarding selection queries throughout the day......

Louth Team

Neil Gallagher

Pop Rath ,Gary O'Hare, Gerard Hoey,

John O'Brien
, Derek Crilly ,Adrian Reid ,

Paddy Keenan, Brian Donnelly,

A
ndy McDonnell Mark Brennan, Jim McEnaneny

Darren Clarke, Shane Lennon, Colm Judge

What Forwards will start on Sunday?
Will Mark Brennan and Darren Clarke come straight into the side.....or just Darren?
Will Colm Judge or David Reid play from the Start?

Answer: Compared to last weeks selections, a relatively predictable forward line was picked in the end.

The two suspendee's do come in for the inexperienced duo of Kevin Rogers and Conor Rafferty.

Colm Judge gets the nod yet again over David Reid . His aggression out on the forty was badly missed when he was taken off as a precautionary last weekend.

Summary: Judge and Mark Brennan will double up and play on the forty, leaving Lennon and Clarke to play inside with Andy and Jim working the two wings.

Will our Defence cope with their Forwards?
Who is going to mark Michael Meehan?
Will we play Man to Man or bring back an extra defender?
Is Ray Finnegan fit to start?

Answer: We won't actually know whether they'll cope until the game begins....So lets focus on what we do know.

Gary O'Hare in for Dessie Finnegan means Dessie will not be marking Michael Meehan and with Ray not starting or possibly deemed fit enough to start.
That means you will have to go back a long time, that a Finnegan didn't start in a competitive League and Championship game in Defence for Louth.
I hazard a guess and say 2007?

Even with O'Hare's introduction, I still reckon and would like to see Pop will pick up Michael Meehan. He is the most experienced player in the full back line and Meehan is a mammoth task for anyone to pick up anyway, nevermind a player in their 2nd game at that level.

The line up further suggests we will be going man to man. The six defenders named all possess the pace and mobility needed to stem the movement of the Galway forwards.

Summary:  The management has given the defence a massive confidence boost from last week by lining out with only 1 change from last week's loss and concession of 16 points (9 from play). It is up to them to repay the faith.

Where has Liam Shevlin, James Califf and Brian White gone?

Answer: They haven't fallen off the end of the earth or anything! They just never even featured as a substitute last weekend. They are all still involved and not injured as all were warming up and there in Mullingar.

Summary: Managements hands might have been forced a bit last week with the yellow card extravaganza. These lads are useful options to have and offer us a little something different so hopefully they will be seen and make an impact come gametime Sunday.

Is Paddy Keenan right?
Will Brian Donnelly Start? Was he injured during the week with DCU?

Is our two first Choice midfielders, even fully fit?
Is our Midfield in Crisis?

Answer: They have both been named to start, so that implies that they are fully fit.
Whether they are right or not is another story.

PK didn't look his normal self when he came on last week, Brian Donnelly seems to be out of form (taken off after 14 mins for DCU during the week also. Throw in Ronan Carroll's performance and we could have a possible crisis.

Summary: Galway's Midfield will be an upgrade from Westmeath's.

Fiontan O'Curraoin has come on alot since last year's league meeting, the DCU midfielder is a neat footpasser and will relish going head to head with College teammate Donnelly. Alongside him is Niall Coleman, a solid Midfielder, who has been quietly going about his business for a number of years now.

So, to stand a chance, we need to at least break even and with all the doubt surrounding our Middle men it doesn't look too good.

Am I doubting PK? yes,at my peril I think I am....hopefully I'm proven wrong
